How To Make Caribou Bone Broth In Alaska (Instant Pot version)

Bone broth is a popular food now, and buying good quality broth in the store is often quite expensive. Making it at home is very easy, particularly in an Instant Pot.

Family friends went hunting and shared some of the meat and bones of the caribou they caught. However, the bones were too long to fit in the pot, and needed to be cut so they could fit. So out came the sawzall!

Broth is very versatile; you can put any spice or vegetable you think will taste good.

Now for the actual recipe:

A few bones

2 onions, cut

Several cloves of garlic, cut in half

Anything else you want to put in there. I like peeled fresh ginger.

Because I cut my bones outside on the ground, I chose to sterilize my bones first before making the broth. To do this, put the bones in the pot, pour in enough water to cover the bones. Set the Instant Pot on Saute, and allow the bones to simmer for ten minutes with the lid ajar. Afterwards, pull out the bones, dump the water, and clean out the pot.

Put bones, onions, garlic, and any other vegetable you are using in the Instant Pot. Add water to the max fill line. Put the lid on, make sure the steam release is set to the 'seal' position, and set to Manual for 120 minutes.

You may let the pot naturally release after the time is up, or you can do a manual by moving the steam release to the right. Enjoy your broth however you like!

Hey Anna! I like making bone broth and do it most often from rotisserie chickens. Have you heard of adding Apple Cider vinegar to pull more nutrients out of the bones?
